Lass Andersen (b.1941)
Born 13 February in Aabybro, Denmark, he went to sea at fifteen and rose to be a boatswain in the Royal Danish Navy. He took his mate's and master's certificates in 1965 and joined the Maersk Line, serving as a mate then a captain until 1978,
when he became a marine superintendent. He left the company to become harbourmaster and pilot in the port of Sønderborg in south Jutland. Marine painting is his hobby and he is largely self-taught, with some assistance from his friend Arne Skottenborg Frederiksen. He produces an annual calendar with a painting for each month and has exhibited widely in Denmark.
